We are pleased to announce the 2018 competition for Travel Awards sponsored by the Department of Botany, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution. We anticipate that three or four awards of up to US$3000 each will be made. The intent of these awards is to support the study of specimens housed in the U.S. National Herbarium and preference will be given to students or researchers who work on tropical plants. Those interested in being considered for these awards are asked to submit a curriculum vitae, a short proposal, and two letters of support. Proposals should not exceed two pages in length and must include the following: applicantís name and address, date submitted, specific objective(s) of the proposed visit in the context of an overall research project, proposed dates of visit, and a brief budget. Complete applications should be sent via e-mail to Dr. Eric Schuettpelz (SchuettpelzE@si.edu); applicants will receive a notice upon receipt of their completed application. All application materials must arrive no later than 15 January 2018. On or about 28 February 2018 all applicants will be notified of the decisions made by our selection committee. Successful applicants are expected to visit the U.S. National Herbarium within a year of receiving an award.
