Local Accommodations and Transportation
Conference attendees are responsible for arranging their own housing at the facility of their choice. All conference sessions will be held in the Hawai`i Imin International Conference Center in Jefferson Hall at the East-West Center which is located on the campus of the University of Hawai`i, Manoa. There are a variety of options either on the campus of the University of Hawai`i or approximately 3 miles away in the Waikiki Beach area. We have arranged a complimentary shuttle bus service that will depart from the Hilton Waikiki Beach Hotel each morning and return after the evening events.
Hotels in the Waikiki area - For your convenience we have reserved a small block of rooms at two hotels in the Diamond Head Beach side of Waikiki which provides easy access to the University as well as many restaurants and local attractions. Please RESERVE EARLY to secure a room within the block at the special rate. Neither the conference organizers nor the individual hotels can provide a roommate matching service.
HILTON WAIKIKI BEACH HOTEL (also known as the Hilton Prince Kuhio). The Hilton Waikiki Beach hotel is a smoke-free, 37-story property offering 601 guestrooms with private balconies. We have reserved a small block of rooms at the special room rate of $135 plus 13.962% tax per night for single or double room with a standard view of the city or Koolau mountains. A preference for 2 double beds or 1 king can indicated with your reservation. Maximum room capacity is 4 adults and children with an charge of $40.00 per each additional adult. Ocean view rooms on the upper floors are available at the prevailing rates.
All Rooms feature a comfortable workspace with extra electric outlets and high-speed internet access via ethernet cable. Please remember to bring a ethernet cable if you want in-room access during your stay. There is a $9.95 fee per day fee for use of the in-room internet connection. Wireless Internet access is complimentary in the lobby and second floor public areas. As well, the hotel offers a complimentary business center with five computer stations. Valet parking is available for $25.00 per day.

WAIKIKI RESORT HOTEL - Just two blocks south is the Waikiki Resort Hotel with over 275 recently renovated rooms each with a private balcony. We have reserved a small block of rooms at the special rate of $100 plus 13.962% tax per night for a single or double room with a standard view of the city or Koolau mountains. Guests have a choice of either two double beds or one king bed. Extra-person charges do apply and vary depending on number of people.
All rooms and suites at the Waikiki Resort Hotel have high speed Internet access at an additional cost of $10.00 per day. Ethernet cables are in the rooms, but it is advised that your bring your own as well. Wireless internet access is complimentary in the lobby. As well, the hotel offers a 24 hour business center. Ample parking available in two parking lots, one open-air, one garage, both with 24-hour security and unlimited in/out privileges for $18.00 per day; based on availability.

Please reserve your rooms early to secure a room in the group block at the special rate. If you encounter any difficulty in getting a room at this rate prior to April 25th please contact Nancy Khan, conference coordinator, immediately to see if additional rooms can be added to the block.
As well, there are numerous other hotels in the south shore neighborhoods of Ala Moana and Waikiki. A list of hotels within close proximity to the University of Hawai`i, Manoa is maintained by their Office of Off-Campus Housing. Another helpful link is this interactive map of hotels in Waikiki.
East–West Center -
Reservations at the Center’s residence halls will be accepted by the Housing Office beginning Nov. 26, 2010. Room rates and descriptions of the facilities are at the bottom of the attached Visitor Request Form or on the Center’s Conference Housing webpage. Some hotel-type services may not be available in the residence halls. Additional information about the Center’s policies and facilities is provided in the FAQ’s. A group affiliation for the "Pacific Islands Symposium" has already been established and entered in the status field of the visitor request form. Therefore, no additional verification of affiliation will be required when you submit your reservation request. All of the Center’s residence halls are located within easy walking distance of the Hawai`i Imin International Conference Center in Jefferson Hall.
University of Hawaii, Manoa–
Dormitory accommodations on campus are available in Frear Hall through the Conference Housing program coordinated by University of Hawai`i Student Housing Services. Frear Hall is located just .3 miles south of the Hawai`i Imin International Conference Center. Reservations can be made directly with the Conference Assistant by submitting the attached Conference Housing Application. Please use the attached form which denotes sponsorship by the UH, Department of Botany in order for your reservation request to receive priority consideration. The form should be returned directly to the Conference Housing Program of the Housing Services Office.
Note that as of 3 Feb 2011 rooms are extremely limited in the dormitories for the nights of May 25 and 26 because the acadmic year will still be in session. Availability of rooms is much better for the nights of May 27, 28, and 29. All reservations are considered on a space available basis as we do not have a block of rooms secured for the group.
If you are interested in sharing one of the multi-room units with other conference attendees you can 1) reserve as a group or 2)indicate your desire to be matched with a roommate and if a similar request is received from someone of the same gender you would be assigned to a unit together.
Local Transportation –
City Bus Route numbers 4 and 6 serve the University of Hawai`i campus. From Kuhio Ave. Waikiki (#4) runs west and then north arriving at the campus via University Ave. A short walk or transfer to (#6) can get you to the East-West Center on East-West Road. Note that bus service is limited on weekends, at night, and on holidays. Timetables and fare information can be found at TheBus.org. Please be aware that travel to and from the airport is most convenient by taxi (approx. $30-$40) as there is no direct bus service.
Parking on campus -
A limited number of spaces will be available in the East-West Center lot for a flat rate of 15.00 for all 4 days of the conference. Arrangements must be made in advance with Nancy Khan, the conference coordinator, and can be reserved as part of the conference registration process.
Individuals staying in Frear Hall (on-campus housing) can apply for a temporary parking pass for a reserved space in the Dole Street parking garage or other zoned parking area. These are assigned based on availability for $5.00 per day. Arrangements for a temporary resident parking pass must be made in advance through the Frear Hall housing office.
Parking on the campus of the University of Hawai`i, Manoa is also available to non-resident visitors in the various garages and lots on a space available basis. Rates and additional information can be found on the Univ. Hawaii website.
