Classical taxonomists generally agree that macroalgae should first be preserved in a Formalin solution and then pressed dry, with a portion preserved in a liquid medium as described below. Note that different species may require slightly different handling and/or preservative techniques. The accompanying reference list should aid in determining other procedures which may be required for some species.
