Description:
Rosulate herbs. Inflorescence a usually richly branched synflorescence, often congested; florescences narrowly spiciform with sclerotic, rolled spathes. Cymules 1-flowered, subbrachyblastic, interphyll (usually) and bracteoles absent. Corolla tube very long and narrow; outer staminode 1, petaloid; ovary with 1 ovulate locule. Geographical Distribution:
Plants of the genus Monotagma are widespread in humid parts of South America.
Taxonomic Diversity:
Comprises 37 species.
