Description:
Rosulate herbs. Inflorescence a moderately branched synflorescence; florescences rather stoutly spiciform, laterally flattened, with conduplicate spathes, cymules brachyblastic, interphyll sometimes present, bracteoles 2, sheathlike. Corolla tube ca. 15 times longer than wide; outer staminode 1, petaloid; ovary uniovulate. (From Kubitzki, et al., p. 288 )
Geographical Distribution:
Plants of this genus are found in Central America and the Pacific lowland south to southern Ecuador.
Taxonomic Diversity:
Comprises four species.
