Description:
     Rosulate herbs. Inflorescence a congested synflorescence, spathes persistent or tardily caducous; florescence component of ca. 5 cymules; cymules evidently dolichoblastic, without interphyll, bracteoles 2, glandular. Corolla tube ca. 1/2 the length of the lobes, or less; outer staminodes 2(1), petaloid; cucullate staminode as in Megaphrynium; ovary with 3 ovulate locules. Fruit fleshy, indehiscent; seeds with a mucilaginous, mantlelike aril. (From Kubitzki, et al., p. 290)

Geographical Distribution:
     West Africa, the Congo Basin and Uganda.

Taxonomic Diversity:
     Comprises about 16 species.
