Thaumatococcus Benth.
Benth. & Hook. f., Gen. P1. 3: 652 (1883).

Description:
     Rosulate herbs. Inflorescence simple or a very sparsely branched synflorescence; spathes caducous. Florescence component of a single cymule; cymule subbrachyblastic, interphyll absent, bracteole solitary, glandular. Corolla tube 1/5- 1/10 the length of lobes; outer staminodes absent; ovary with 3 ovulate locules. Fruit large, with thick wings, indehiscent, exocarp leathery, endocarp mucilaginous; seeds with aril of membranous sheets sticking to testa. (From Kubitzki, et al., p. 292)

Geographical Distribution:
     Found in West Africa and the Congo Basin.

Taxonomic Diversity:
     Only one species, T. danielii (Benn.) Benth.
